How to Create a Custom Follow Sign Activity-Example

The Follow Sign activity asks athletes to identify and react to a selected symbol while other pods display distracting signs and colors.

This guide follows the example shown in the video: a four-pod activity in which the athlete must find and hit the pod displaying a heart.

1. Create a New Activity

From the Sportreact app homepage:

  1. Tap Create Activity.
  2. Select Reaction System.
  3. Select Follow sign.

In this activity, one pod displays the correct symbol while the other pods display distracting signs or colors. The athlete must find and deactivate the correct pod.

3. Add Athletes to the Queue

Under Choose Athletes to Start, select who will complete the activity.

You can:

  • Tap Add to Queue to select existing athletes.
  • Tap Add Guest Athlete to run the activity without saving results to an athlete profile.
  • Drag and drop athletes to rearrange their order.

Use the + and buttons next to Repeat Queue to select how many rounds the group should complete.

In the video example, two Guest Athletes are added and the queue is repeated five times.

Optional PLUS settings

With Sportreact PLUS, you can enable Auto-save Results to Athlete’s Profile when using saved athlete profiles.

You can also select Present Now to display the live leaderboard.

4. Select the Correct Sign

Scroll to Sign & Color.

  1. Tap the current sign.
  2. Choose a category:
    • Lowercase letters
    • Uppercase letters
    • Numbers from 0–9
    • Numbers from 10–99
    • Symbols
  3. Select the sign athletes should follow.
  4. Tap Save.

The video uses a heart as the sign that will be followed.

You can tap Add More to choose up to three correct signs.

5. Customize the Distractors

Under Customize Other Interferences, choose which signs and colors can appear on the other pods.

Customize signs

  1. Tap Signs.
  2. Select the sign categories you want to use as distractors.
  3. Tap Customize to choose individual letters, numbers, arrows, or symbols.
  4. Tap Save.

Customize colors

Tap Colors and select the colors that may appear on the distracting pods.

This allows you to control how simple or challenging the activity will be.

6. Choose How Athletes Deactivate the Cue

Under Deactivation Options, select one of the following:

  • Hit: The athlete has to physically touch or hit the pod to deactivate it.
  • Distance: The pod deactivates when the athlete waves or passes by within the selected distance.
  • Hit & Distance: Both activation methods can be used.

The video uses Hit.

When using Hit, adjust the signal strength:

  • A lower G value makes the sensor more sensitive, a slighter tap is required to deactivate.
  • A higher G value requires a stronger hit.

The example is set to 1.6 G.

7. Select the Number of Pods

Turn Number of Pods on and choose how many pods will be included.

The video example uses 4 pods.

Make sure the same number of physical pods is connected before starting the activity.

8. Choose Whether Cues Can Repeat

Turn Repeat Cues on when the next cue may appear on the same pod as the previous cue.

Turn it off when you always want the next cue to appear on a different pod.

The video example has Repeat Cues turned on.

9. Set the Cue Duration

Under Cue Duration, choose how long each cue remains active.

When the athlete does not deactivate the correct pod within this time, the cue is recorded as missed.

The example uses a cue duration of 1.5 seconds.

Use a longer duration for beginners and a shorter duration to increase the difficulty.

10. Set the Delay Between Cues

Under Delay Time, choose when the next cue should appear:

  • None: The next cue appears immediately.
  • Timer: Every cue begins after the same delay.
  • Random: The delay changes within your selected minimum and maximum range.

The final activity in the video uses a fixed delay of 1.2 seconds.

11. Set the Activity Duration

Choose how the activity should end:

  • Timer: The activity ends after a selected time.
  • Signals: The activity ends after a selected number of cues.
  • Misses: The activity ends after the athlete misses a selected number of cues.

The video selects Misses and sets the activity to end after 5 missed cues.

12. Enable Random Cue Patterns

Turn Cue Patterns on to create a new random pattern during every repetition.

This prevents athletes from memorizing the order of the pods.

13. Choose How the Activity Starts

Under Activity Start Options, select:

  • Trigger Start: The activity begins through the selected physical trigger.
  • Countdown: The activity begins after an on-screen countdown.

The video uses Countdown.

14. Adjust Brightness and Sound

Use Pods Brightness to make the signs easier to see in your training environment.

Increase the brightness outdoors or in brightly lit spaces. A lower setting may be sufficient indoors.

Under Sound, choose whether the pods should produce sound during the activity.

15. Save the Activity

Tap the Save icon at the bottom of the screen.

On the Save Activity page, you can:

  1. Upload a photo.
  2. Upload an instructional video.
  3. Enter an activity name.
  4. Add a description or athlete instructions.
  5. Tap Create New.

To find the activity later on, go to Activities --> My activities
